What is Skin peeling treatment?

Chemical peeling is a process where a chemical solution is applied to the surface of the skin to peel away the top layers. The underlying skin heals naturally, replacing the removed skin with a fresh, new skin surface.

Skin peels are one of the older but a very effective skin treatment method, it is a dermatologist recommended non surgical procedure. The goals of skin peeling are to return the skin to its former state, for example, before the signs of aging and sun damage kicked in.

Chemical skin peeling is used for pigmented skin, blemished or scarred surface etc. it refreshes the skin by removing the blemishes including those pigmented spots that stand out. Effective cosmetic peels also reduce the unsightly stretch marks and eliminate scars.

What are the types?

There are many types of skin peeling, including simple superficial peeling, medium and deep skin peels. The type of skin peel required as treatment is decided after consultation with the dermatologist based on the extent of damage and the type of skin.

How does it work?

Cosmetic skin peels work by removing the dead skin cells rapidly, effectively and uniformly. This allows for the younger skin to resurface (this skin is fresher looking and thus restoring the original texture of the skin before damage). A skin peel is an advanced exfoliation that is done with the recommendations of a trained dermatologist as a non surgical treatment procedure. They prompt the natural healing mechanism of the skin to produce new skin cells to replace the ones that have been removed.

What is the procedure?

The non surgical skin treatment procedure is performed in under 30 minutes usually. It has no side effects if done by a trained dermatologist. It works by the best efforts of both the dermatologist and the patient undergoing treatment. While the doctor is responsible for methodical treatment, the patient is responsible for following the peel protocol properly.

Since this is a simple non surgical skin treatment procedure, it has a very normal downtime of about 2 days to a week. If properly done, there are no lasting effects like red raw skin or skin surface that is sore to touch. A mild flush that appears due to formation of new skin layer also disappears in a day or two.

What are the results of skin peeling?

Skin peeling as a non surgical cosmetic skin treatment procedure. It improves skin hydration and eliminates sun damage and discolouration. The skin peels are also effective against acne scarring and pigmented skin around eye lids, under arms and in fact any area of the body.

But skin peeling is not effective for very deep scarring as the layer of skin that is removed is very minimal and not enough to cover the deeper damages. If the extent of damage is high, dermatologists will recommend other treatment procedures.

Lasers are sometimes used to aid skin peeling mainly due to the control of depth they can afford with no adverse side effects and their ease of use.

Superficial peels are also done with many agents including exfoliation, glycolic or lactic acids that are now common elements of many makeup products because of their effectiveness in reducing aging signs.

Chemical peels are not alternatives to other skin treatments like facelifts, but can still give a drastic improvement to the overall texture of the skin. Simple and chemical peeling is an anti aging skin treatment procedure for men and women of all ages. Chemical peeling is an easy option and can be done after skin type and colouring tests are done.

Patients with fair skin that is prone to wrinkling or scarring usually opt for the peeling procedure. This method is not recommended for people with highly pigmented skin. Chemical peels are aimed to erase, reduce and fade fine wrinkles and other surface imperfections that are considered aging sighs.

Many patients have been benefitted from this and it is called one of the best non surgical anti aging skin treatment procedures used in cosmetic medicine industry. More details can be found at:
