Advanced Peels

Advanced Chemical Peeling

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is the application of a chemical substance such as glycolic acid (AHA) or salicylic acid (BHA) that exfoliates the surface of the skin. Chemical peels work by removing the superficial lines and wrinkles (and sometimes other scars) in the skin and clear the uneven pigmentation. The goal of a chemical peel is to make the skin look softer, smoother and more radiant.

What are the types of chemical peeling?

Simple chemical peels are used for normal skin issues, those that are very light but still need cosmetic intervention to be cleared. They work on the outermost layers and peel the skin, removing the surface irregularities. The non surgical skin treatment procedure is done by dermatologists over a series of sessions. They are usually painless and only cause mild discomfort. The downtime is also less, making sure the person being treated does not have to spend a lot of time in recovery.

What is an advanced chemical peel?

Advanced chemical peels are used when the normal peels cannot be used to address the imperfections. This is often taken as the solution for blotchiness, coarse wrinkles and some deep acne scars. The recovery time, though, is lengthy and a bit more complex than superficial milder chemical peel techniques.

When is an advanced chemical peel required?

The advanced chemical peels skin treatment is a non surgical procedure dermatologists recommend when there is a deeper damage to the skin including sever sun damage, coarse deep wrinkles, some select scars and even pre cancerous growths.

What are the types of advanced peels?

These could be combination of peels, step wise peels or peels combined with other procedures like microdermabrasion.

What are the things to remember about Advanced Chemical Peels?

  • The procedure might result in side effects that include swelling, and the patients must count a recovery time of about a week after the non surgical skin treatment procedure that uses the advanced chemical peels technique.
  • While many patients are suitable only for medium and superficial chemical peels, and other treatments like microdermabrasion, only a select few can opt for advanced chemical peels technique.
  • Advanced chemical peels are to be used cautiously for patients who are dark skinned, have freckles etc. because the treatment might cause uneven skin tone.

The principle of advanced chemical peels:-

Advanced chemical peels involve a chemical solution being applied to the skin, and after a day or so the skin begins to peel off. The advanced chemical peels non surgical skin treatment procedure can be used on the face, neck, chest, hands and even other places in the body. The top layer of skin falls away to reveal the underlying new skin. Advanced chemical peels also open pores and reduce acne breakouts too.

Advanced chemical peels are used to evenly control the shedding of damaged skin cells. And a light chemical peeling can remove the risk of skin cancer at times.

What happens after the procedure?

The skin might remain slightly red and continue peeling for few days after the advanced chemical peel treatment. The skin will become tighter and smoother but might be accompanied by stinging or itching in milder levels.

After the advanced chemical peels non surgical skin treatment procedure is done, sunspots, sun damage, acne scars, enlarged pores and skin dryness are cleared gradually. The skin also does not become oily and there are reduced blemishes or irregularities in the skin pigmentation

The patient’s face will have a crust on the treated skin for some time, and the crust will flake off bit by bit, revealing bright pink skin. After a few weeks, the bright pink flushed look will fade to a pale and smooth complexion.

Advanced chemical peels have very little side effects if done properly, extra precautions include avoiding sun for some days after treatment, stopping oneself from picking at the skin as the crusting and flaking happens slowly.
