I’ve shown a lot of love to those chemical-laden face washes but it seems like enough is enough. Here’s what I’ve been using to wash my face instead.
Face packs, face masks, and facials have not been my thing. Actually, the correct way to put it is that thanks to my hectic life, I’ve not had the time to develop a skincare routine.
So, to help my skin breathe again, I did exactly what anyone will do: I bought expensive skincare products but they gave up on my skin as well.
I have always heard that my skin looks dry and pale because of pollution, dust, and heat. However, amidst this lockdown, when I was away from all these external forces, my skin became pigmented, I got acne, and it started looking lifeless.
It was so disheartening at that time. On top of it, the fancy products I had ordered did nothing to help.
My mum came to the rescue with her old school nuskha
I turned to my mother for help and asked her how to fix these issues. This time around, my skin needed some major help. Her strict advice was: Get rid of the expensive face wash and try a besan-haldi pack to clean your face.”
I thought to myself that given that these ingredients are literally right in the kitchen cabinet, there’s no harm giving this a go!
20 days later, I couldn’t believe the change I saw in my skin. Yes, all it took was 20 days to start seeing the changes.
My skin had become supple, looked hydrated, my dark circles reduced, and most importantly, the pigmentation along with the acne disappeared.
This is what I applied instead of face wash every day and it worked:
So, this is what I did. I mixed besan, haldi, lemon, honey, and raw milk together. I applied this thick paste daily for 15 minutes right before bathing. I would gently rub it over my face to remove dirt and oil.
Around 20 days later, I was so happy to see the results and wanted to know how these natural ingredients worked better than anything I’d bought off the market.
I got in touch with dermatologist, Dr. Rinky Kapoor to know the facts. This is what she explained to me:
1. Haldi aka Turmeric worked on my acne
She told me that turmeric is a well-known antiseptic and it has been used for ages to treat acne. Plus, it has tan removal properties which helped me get rid of all that dullness.
2. Honey made my skin supple
She told me that my skin was looking lifeless because it lacked proper hydration. When I applied honey, it actually nourished my skin which made it soft, supple, and hydrated.
3. Besan aka gram flour scrubbed the dirt off my face
Well, it acted as a base for my face pack plus my mother told me that it has anti-tan properties. My skin is sensitive and hence, I tried it on a patch of my skin first. Thankfully, it worked.
4. Milk helped my skin to brighten up
Dr. Kapoor told me that due to the presence of lactic acid, milk is a great option for skin brightening. The fat content brought back my skin to life.
5. Lemon helped me deal with pigmentation
It is a known fact that lemon helps in reducing pigmentation but due to my dry skin, I always avoided it. But now I understand that mixing it with hydrating ingredients can help it work its magic while not drying up the skin. Dr. Kapoor told me that vitamin C in lemon has anti-ageing properties.
So, I’m almost two months down without a face wash and I’m grateful that I skipped it because my skin is way better than what it used to be.
