Beauty therapists and skin experts vouch for this metal. Says dermatologist Rashmi Shetty, “Using gold is a very ancient science, it has been documented in ancient literature as being very good for the skin. Probably its use of ornaments may have even come from that. While people wore jewellery then, the essence of the metal may have drained off it onto the skin when they bathed and that is what gave it goodness. Thus, gold is established for beauty and wellbeing since time immemorial. Ayurveda also has the practice of eating precious metals through foods like chyawanprash, so gold definitely has a lot of good properties. The metal is a powerful antioxidant and is anti-inflammatory and that is why is so sought after. Gold creams, facials are extremely popular, today. As is the practice, make sure you do a spot test as you may react to material dust.”

The stars go for gold!
The treatment has found so many fans among celebs . Israeli model Bar Refaeli tried a 24-carat liquid gold facial to get that glow. Supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Irina Shayk, Bella Hadid and Alessandra Ambrosio are also reportedly fans of the 24-karat gold facial. Kim Kardashian has shared a package from her facialist, which included a rose gold brightening facial treatment mask and Priyanka Chopra is also said to have used a rose gold mask to prep for Meghan Markle’s wedding.

The regimen is much in demand when it comes to prepping for a party. Says Dr Shefali Trasi-Nerurkar, “There are lot of ways gold is used in beauty treatments, most of which are high-end as gold sheets are on the expensive side. In big demand, are gold creams, eye masks and face masks. In these, the liquid gold is incorporated into the product. It is then kept in the face for 15 minutes so that it gets absorbed. And the rest of it is massaged into the face so that it gets absorbed better. The result is a nice glow on the skin, a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles and the face also feels hydrated. Another advantage is that the gold-infused treatment can be done in a one-hour session and the effect lasts over a week. It’s definitely a go-to treatment for marriages and parties in this season. We had a lot of clients booked through December for gold facials and even now.”

Gold can also reduce sun damage and is found to be a collagen stimulator and helps improves skin elasticity. Since it is anti-inflammatory, it’s good for those who have redness, mild acne and pigmentation and so those with sensitive skin can go for it. Pure gold facials can remove toxins and impurities from the skin and restore the skin tone. What we are seeing is that a lot of men also go for gold facials and other gold-based beauty treatments at this time.
